Dr. Corey Thompson, Owner

Born in central New Jersey, Corey has alternated living on each coast several times before finally settling in Northern California. During his travels, Corey has managed to pick up degrees from UC Davis and Yale University, as well as publish a paper or two. Corey joined ACC in 2000 and enjoyed it so much, he became an owner in 2005. At ACC, his interests include small mammals and radiology. Corey is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), and he has the dubious honor of being the vice-president of the Napa-Solano Veterinary Medical Association (NSVMA). In addition, Corey is a member of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV) and the House Rabbit Society. Plus he really digs ferrets. Outside of veterinary medicine, Corey's interests are eclectic and dizzying, including such things as  astronomy, baroque music, computer history, sumo wrestling, and tattoo art.

Dr. John Howard, Owner

Originally an “Army brat”, Dr Howard has lived in a number of places.  Contact with Veterinary Medicine came though his mom, who worked 20 years as a tech/receptionist in a mixed animal practice in central Washington State.  Coming to California in 1970 for most of his 6 years in Navy electronics, he graduated from Fresno State with a degree in Microbiology.  He worked at the Immunology Research Lab at Valley Children’s Hospital, Fresno, and also both as a veterinary technician and zoo keeper for several years before attending UC Davis Veterinary School, graduating in 1983.  After graduation, he practiced in Walnut Creek for about 5 years, then went to a solo practice in Napa for a year (he eventually figured out it was better, for the sake of sanity, to be in a group practice).   Coming into the Animal Care Center with Dr. Barnes in 1989, after Dr Jack Douglas retired, he became a partner about a year later.  Both doctors were glad that he settled in Vacaville.  Going on to join Rotary, Friends of the Dixon Mayfair, Odd Fellows, and Solano ACAC among other things, Dr Howard has worked in many community events.  Dr Howard also maintains memberships in NSVMA, CVMAAVMA, and AAHA

Dr Amber Behnke, Associate

Dr. Behnke inserts a fresh viewpoint and a youthful verve. A UC Davis graduate, Amber joined ACC in 2006 and holds a special interest in exotic small mammals. Originally from the walnut country of Northern California, Dr. Behnke has lived all over the world, and we are lucky to have her at ACC.

Dr. Brian Orr, Associate

Dr. Brian Orr joined ACC in the summer of 2010. Dr. Orr graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 2001 with a B.S. in Animal Bioscience and Minor in Animal Science. He obtained his V.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. He first worked as both a large and small animal practitioner in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania region prior to coming to California. Dr. Orr's veterinary interests include internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. During his spare time he enjoys the outdoors as well as simply spending time with his family.

Dr. Charles Hillary Barnes, Emeritus

Nobody can argue the fact that Charles Barnes is the most influential individual in ACC's history. Chas grew up a true cowboy in the deserts of Nevada. He graduated from veterinary school in 1958 (the seventh class to leave the hallowed halls of UC Davis) and joined Dr Roy Cobble (from the first UC Davis veterinary class) at Animal Care Center shortly thereafter. After a brief stint in the army, he became a co-owner in 1965. Chas completed 50 years of indentured servitude to ACC in August 2008, making him perhaps the most known and loved person in Vacaville. Ever the story teller, he earned his first BS degree in the 1950s, and continues to earn them daily ever since. Now in partial retirement, Chas sees occasional clients to prevent the torch wielding mob from ransacking our doors.
